Artist Statment

As an artist I’m not out to change the world with excessively conceptualized ideas that go over the head of the viewing audience my goal is to make an impression and/or inspire visually to invoke a reaction or emotion to my art. Some of my major influences in my work are graffiti which has helped developed my abstract style using curvilinear style forms and anime that influences my animated color choices.

The creative process begins with laying out an idea in a rough thumbnail sketch. Then, moving from a small sketch I enlarge the piece by hand and add any digitally created sections by transferring them with graphite paper from a printed version. Combining the digital and traditional methods of creating can be difficult at times because both have to work together in a way that is not so obvious to the viewer. It’s challenging but not impossible to accomplish and it has allowed me slowly to let go of the forced perfection that so many artists seem to have and just enjoy the creative process.

My work has grown and changed over time creatively and will continue to do so. The end result is art that speaks to each viewer in its own way, allowing them to take something from the work. If my art can accomplish that then it has done its job, it doesn’t have to change the world but it should make an impact visually positively or negatively.

Influences
My influences come from art, artists, and life. I enjoy the art movements of Baroque, Pop Art, Ancient and Classical, Renaissance, and Surrealism as well as some others. Some artists that inspire me are Dali, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Otterness, Kaws One, Banksy, Frank Stella, and Takashi Murakami.
